Flight 19 was a training flight, composed of 5 TBM Avenger bomber aircraft, which went missing over the area of the Atlantic Ocean – later to be dubbed the Bermuda Triangle. The squadron, composed of experienced navigators, took place on a calm day and was led by veteran pilot Lt. Charles Taylor. Although scheduled to return to a naval base upon completion of their training exercise, the five aircraft never returned. All 14 airmen aboard were lost, and Navy investigators were subsequently unable to determine the cause. It’s unlikely they went AWOL (absent without leave) for some sneaky Bermuda holidays; it was claimed that the flight leader had been heard saying “We are entering white water, nothing seems right. We don’t know where we are, the water is green, no white.”

The Triangle Takes Shape

Although the above incident has come to encapsulate the mysterious disappearances the Bermuda Triangle is known for, many different disappearances have marked the particular expanse as a place where vessels can go missing very quickly – and apparently without much warning. One incident resulted in the largest loss of life in the history of the US Navy that wasn’t related to combat; the USS Cyclops and the 309 crewmembers on board went missing without a trace in 1918.

It is the Chiefs that are in control of the performance and everyone else makes up ‘The Crowd’. The dances tell stories such as that of David and Goliath.
