Cape Town’s Best Cosmopolitan Cafes

August 9th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Cape Town holidays, South Africa holidays

If you’re spending some time in Cape Town during your holiday in South Africa, you will most likely need somewhere to stop for lunch at some point. Why not call into one of the best cosmopolitan cafes in Cape Town?

Afro Cafe
Tucked away down a pedestrian street that is littered with antique stalls, the Afro Cafe is one of the most popular cafes in Cape Town. Known for its vibrancy, this coffee shop is both funky and fresh and offers a real taste of Africa. With an incredibly bright interior, and dazzling, retro packaging accompanying any food or drink being taken out, the Afro Cafe is the epitome of African style and sassiness and can be spotted a mile away. The best part of the cafe is its unrivalled range of exotically flavoured teas, though by all accounts the coffee is pretty good too, and don’t even get us started on the moreish menu! For an authentic taste of South African culture, the Afro Cafe is a real hot spot you’d be mad to miss out on.

The Daily Delhi
If your daily routine back home involves a morning cup of coffee with a read of the local paper before you can even think about facing the day, then there is a really easy way to superimpose that routine onto your holiday in Cape Town – simply pay a visit to the Daily Delhi. Perfectly situated in the quaint back streets of the Central Business District, the Daily Delhi is more of a local hangout than a tourist trap. This only serves to make it more of an enjoyable experience for the odd visitor or two to South Africa who happen to stumble upon it. If freshly baked breakfast croissants, a morning newspaper, a fantastic cup of coffee, and a real local hustle and bustle atmosphere all sound like the key ingredients to your day, then this is definitely the cafe for you. The Daily Delhi may be small but it is certainly worth a visit if you like to start your day with a good cup of coffee.

C’est La Vie
Venture a bit further south of Cape Town and you will soon come across suburb, Kalk Bay. A Parisian style cafe, C’est La Vie, means only one thing in this case – this is the life! Voted a top ten Cape Town coffee house by top women’s magazine Elle, this really is a classic place to get that kick of caffeine. Making many of their own breads themselves, their breakfast treats are a real delicacy, and when you add the great cups of coffee you really do have the recipe for a fantastic start to your day. You’ll find C’est La Vie down a cobbled street which simply adds to the classic, yet slightly eccentric, atmosphere exuded by the cafe. A plain, but incredibly pleasant menu gives you plenty to choose from, and it really is impossible to choose the wrong thing..

So, if you’re feeling a little bit peckish while you’re in Cape Town, make sure you drop into any one of the best cosmopolitan cafes – you’ll be glad you did!
